Agriculture
UK and Hungary share an interest in ensuring that European agriculture is competitive, and that rural areas enjoy the benefits of strong economic development whilst respecting the environment. The Embassy is in regular contact with the Hungarian government - chiefly the Ministry of Agriculture - about how to achieve that. A major theme of discussion is the Common Agricultural Policy.
Together with several other partners, including the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture, the Embassy co-organised a series of debates on the future of the CAP in late 2006/early 2007. The results of these debates can be seen on our Budapest Discussions pages.
As well as the future of the CAP, the Embassy discusses many other agricultural themes with the Hungarian Ministry - ranging from how to best control the use of ammonium nitrate fertiliser, to the future prospects of the European eel, and avian flu.
