UK@Sziget

Sziget Festival

The British Embassy Budapest was represented at the Sziget Festival - the biggest cultural festival in Central Europe between 12-17 August 2009.

ZARE day at Sziget

The Embassy tent named UK@Sziget was at the Civil Sziget with staff providing consular advice and showcasing the British Embassy's priority areas such as climate change, human rights, development policy and activities of the British Council with interesting games, quizzes and films, etc.

We also launched our new anti-racism campaign "Zene a Rasszizmus Ellen - ZARE" (Music Against Racism) on 11 August the Zero Day of the Festival.

Our programme included:

Consular advice

We set up a consular information page on our website with a video message from HMA Greg Dorey, and our colleagues were also available in the British Embassy tent at the Festival.

Carbon footprint measuring

The Climate Office gives information about climate change issues, helps to develop projects from carbon-saving ideas, gives professional help and consultation opportunity with experts to start thesis or other research in the field of climate change and finally operates on a carbon-neutral way. At the Sziget we introduced carbon-footprint measurement, where one can measure, what impact they have on the environment in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, where at the end they could ride a bike, and produce electricity with their own energy.

Films

Home

A film by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Luc Besson

With aerial footage from 54 countries, Home is a depiction of how the Earth's problems are all interlinked, but with an only one responsible: the human. It start with the creation and the evolution of the animal species in the Earth, until the human, who starts living peacefully with nature. But the accelerate grow of population in the last 60 years and the discover of the oil, changed all.

The film is entirely composed of aerial shots of various places around Earth, taken in over 50 countries.

Distributed in 126 countries, the film retraces the history of the planet and humanity by playing on the contrast between the beauty of the footage of the sky high definition and severity of threats to the Earth.

The images are breathtaking - even the ones of polluted sites. The message carried by this film is extremely important because it highlights the question of survival.

Future City Game is a team based process designed to create new thinking and action to improve quality of life in cities. It stimulates original thinking in cities about ways to address global and local challenges and builds skills of professionals and communities working in cities.

We would like to create an intercultural space for the Sziget visitors where we can celebrate diversity with interactive games and discussions. It can also be a networking space for Intercultural Navigators.
