- Since May 2006 all passports we issue are biometric.
- Passport applications must be submitted in person. We do not accept applications by post.
Are you a British national born on or before 2 September 1929?
With effect from 18 October 2004 you can apply for a free ten-year passport from the identity and Passport Services. For further information and an application form please contact the Consular Section. Please do not use the standard C1 passport application form. Please note that the free passport is produced in the UK and normally takes up to 6 weeks to process.
Travelling to the US?
For information about passport requirements for visa-free travel to the US, visit the US Embassy in London's website.
To qualify under the US Visa Waiver Program your British passport must be machine-readable. All passports which have been issued by the British Embassy Budapest since 2003 are machine-readable. If you are still unsure then please check the data page on your passport - if there are 2 lines of data at the bottom of this page this means your passport IS machine-readable. If there is NO data at the bottom of this page then your passport is NOT machine readable and you would require either a visa for entry into the US or a new passport.
Depending on the date your passport was issued, it may also need to include a digital photograph and a biometric data chip for you to qualify for the Visa Waiver Program. All passports that have been issued by British Embassy Budapest since May 2006 are biometric.
