British Embassy Bulletin by Nóra Singer
Hi, I believe that the time has come for a Hungarian from the T&I Section of the Embassy to say hello. My name is Nora Singer and I am one of the four Trade and Investment Officers.
My impression is that this must be one of the most interesting jobs at the Embassy. Challenging, manifold, creative, intellectual, demanding.. I expect colleagues to continue the list.
What does a T&I Officer do here? Maps out potential business opportunities in Hungary (often earlier than an actual opportunity turns up) and, marketing the UK excellence, matches them with what UK companies have to offer. Whilst doing this, we organise events and visit programmes, prepare market researches, (cold-)call business people (both in the UK and in Hungary), get thorough intelligence on details of specific industries, meet people, form and take part in working groups, deliver presentations, help businessmen find their ways in Hungary... and load CRM (the Customer Relationship Management system), do the related admin work including follow up and the preparation of annual Business Plans, prepare background information packages and write reports.
We are lucky enough to work in two-member teams and only cover a few industries each. My pair is Emese (for readers in Hungary: not from the well known bank-advertisement, but the lovely one!) and we cover the automotive, aerospace, construction, security, metals, mining and transport industries - all very feminine! The current hot issues we are working on are R&D and technology in automotive and sustainable construction/urban regeneration, but we are quite happy to take on any good ideas. On top of the sector responsibilities we have others as well, to be continued...
