Dear Readers,

We are happy to contribute to the British Embassy Budapest Bulletin again, for the second time now. I hope you will find these paragraphs as interesting as you did last time - we were so delighted to receive useful notes and comments from you.

As the use of recycled paper is getting more and more popular among colleagues, I hope we can keep this tendency of growing interest up in the future as well.

The Ambassador`s Residence got involved in our programme when - beside collecting waste in selective bins - they ordered a handy machine to press plastic bottles, just like the Embassy did. This machine is very useful and fun to use in every environmentally sensitive household.

By introducing selective waste collection at the Embassy and with the help of our colleagues, we have collected 850 kg paper, 4 bins of glass, 4 bins of Pet bottles, and 2 bags of cans so far in 2008.

Let me tell you about two recent events related to environmental protection. These were organised by my Embassy colleagues and both proved to be a success. One of them was an after-work, informal programme for our contacts at the Szindbád Cinema – the screening of an interesting documentary entitled "The 11th Hour" - produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio. The film documents the grave problems the planet's life systems are facing: global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, but also offers hope and potential solutions to these problems. I felt that our audience in the cinema was very responsive to the issue, which is good and offers hope for the future.

The second one was a whole day workshop here at the Embassy about Carbon Capture Storage, its new technologies, legal aspects and much more. It was organised by Eötvös Loránd Geophysics Institute and the British Embassy with top UK and international experts from the profession high public attendance and great outcome. Let me stop here, more will be available with much more details later!

We still await your comments at info@britemb.hu
