President Klaus signs Lisbon Treaty instrument of ratification (03/11/2009)
President Klaus of the Czech Republic has this afternoon signed the instrument of ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, the last EU Member State to do so.
Europe Minister Chris Bryant issued the following statement on this occasion:
"I welcome the news that President Klaus has signed the Czech Republic's instrument of ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. With the completion of Czech ratification, all 27 Member States have ratified the Treaty, which we expect to come into force on 1 December."
"Both the Government and Parliament have reached a settled view that the Treaty is good for Britain and good for the EU. We need the EU to be far more effective on the world stage and to be more efficient in the way it does business. Every other government in Europe is looking forward to the end of this decade of naval gazing so the EU can focus on the real issues that matter for families: jobs and growth, security and tackling climate change."
