2012 is not only the year of the London Olympics and Paralympics Games, but also the Diamond Jubilee year, marking the 60 years of Her Majesty The Queen's reign. The only other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1897.
HM The Queen came to throne on 6 February 1952, while her coronation only took place on 2 June 1953. Her Majesty celebrates 2 birthdays every year. Her actual birthday is on the 21 April, and her official birthday on a Saturday in June. In 2012 this falls on Saturday the 16 June.
In the United Kingdom, Buckingham Palace is responsible for coordinating events of the Diamond Jubilee central weekend (2nd–5th June 2012) and organising The Queen`s programme in her Diamond Jubilee year. Further details of the celebrations can be found on the official website of the British Monarchy.
The Government launched its dedicated Diamond Jubilee Directgow website which will feature regularly updated public information about the Diamond Jubilee.
As far as the British Embassy in Budapest is concerned we are planning to hold a number of events and take part in ones organised by others to celebrate and promote the Diamond Jubilee Year. Further information on what is happening in Budapest will be posted on this website and can be followed on our Facebook page.
Please note that the British Embassy in Budapest is not in a position to offer help or assistance in forwarding messages, invitations and gifts to HM The Queen or any other members of the Royal Family on behalf of the public. Also, unfortunately we are unable to provide further information on the celebrations in the United Kingdom other than what can be found on the official websites. We thank you for your kind understanding.
